Izola's marina smells of diesel and pine at six in the morning, and the gulf is still glass. Barka is a straightforward 37ft monohull — three cabins, eight berths, nothing fussy about her. The wind here is thermal: flat mornings, a working breeze through the afternoon, then it drops again. Croatian Istria and the Italian lagoons sit a day's sail either side, so a week gives you three countries without long passages. Right for families and first-time charterers; less right for anyone chasing distance.

Coffee on deck, engine on, out past the breakwater while the gulf is flat.
- 10:30Along the Strunjan cliffs
Sandstone wall on one side, open Adriatic on the other. Sails up if it fills.
- 12:30Lunch at anchor
Swim off the stern, eat aboard, wait for the afternoon breeze to arrive.
- 15:00The thermal comes in
Two or three hours of steady sailing across the gulf. The proper part of the day.
- 17:30Piran
Tie up under the campanile, walk the old town, eat on the quay.
- 19:30Back to Izola
Short hop home in the evening calm, or stay the night in Piran.
