Yacht charter in Sweden

Sweden has some of the largest archipelagos in Europe, with tens of thousands of islands and skerries. The water is calm among the islands, the summer days are long, and the culture of free anchoring makes for quiet nights in nature. The fleet on our desk here is mostly sailing yachts for bareboat charter.

The sailing grounds

Saltsjö Pir and Bullandö are the bases for the Stockholm archipelago, from the busy inner islands to Sandhamn and the quiet outer skerries. Göteborg is the base for the west coast and Bohuslän's granite islands and fishing villages. Motala, on Lake Vättern, sits on the Göta Canal, which crosses the country through dozens of locks.

The fleet on our desk

We list about 50 boats in Sweden from 4 charter companies. The fleet is sailing yachts (79%) and motor yachts and motorboats (19%). Half the boats were built in 2022 or later, and the typical boat is about 37 ft long with 3 cabins. The most common models here are the Bavaria Cruiser 46, Hanse 388 and Hanse 418.

Ways to charter

Boats in Sweden offer these kinds of charter (a boat can offer more than one):

Bareboat (46 boats): you skipper the boat yourself. The skipper needs a licence the operator accepts, and usually a VHF radio certificate.

Crewed (9 boats): a skipper and crew come with the boat, often with a cook or host.

Cabin charter (1 boat): you book one cabin on a shared, crewed boat rather than the whole yacht.

Day charter (1 boat): a single day on the water, usually with crew.

What a week costs

These prices are for the boat for seven nights, taken from the 2027 offers we hold in November 2026.

In September, the cheapest month for most boats here, a well-priced boat costs about €1,100 a week and the middle of the fleet about €1,800.

In July, the dearest month, the middle of the fleet costs about €4,200 a week.

The cheapest tenth of boats here start from about €1,100 a week, and the top tenth from about €4,900.

Fuel, marina fees, the final clean and any skipper are usually extra on bareboat yachts; crewed boats include their crew. Each boat page shows what its operator includes and the live price for your dates.

Boats start from Saltsjö Pir Marina (29 boats), Motala Harbour (9 boats), Göteborg City Marina (8 boats) and Bullandö Marina (1 boat). Almost every charter here starts on a Saturday.

Getting there

Stockholm Arlanda and Göteborg Landvetter airports serve the bases. Motala is about 3 hours from Stockholm by road or train.
