Yacht charter in Canary Islands

The Canaries are one of the few places in Europe where you can sail through the winter. The islands are volcanic and high, with the Atlantic trade winds blowing steadily from the north-east. The sailing is more demanding than in the Mediterranean, with ocean swell and strong winds between the islands, so it suits crews with some experience.

The sailing grounds

Most boats leave from southern Tenerife, at Marina del Sur in Las Galletas, Puerto Colón and Marina San Miguel, and from Radazul and Santa Cruz on the east coast. Las Palmas is the base on Gran Canaria. From southern Tenerife, La Gomera is the classic crossing; whales and dolphins are often seen in the channel. The winds speed up between the islands, so plan crossings around the forecast.

All year. Summer has the strongest trade winds and winter the mildest. Water temperatures stay around 18 to 24°C.

Ways to charter

Boats in Canary Islands offer these kinds of charter (a boat can offer more than one):

Bareboat (49 boats): you skipper the boat yourself. The skipper needs a licence the operator accepts, and usually a VHF radio certificate.

Day charter (8 boats): a single day on the water, usually with crew.

Crewed (4 boats): a skipper and crew come with the boat, often with a cook or host.

All-inclusive (1 boat): crew, meals and drinks are in one price.

Skippered (1 boat): a professional skipper sails the boat with you, and you crew as much or as little as you like.

What a week costs

These prices are for the boat for seven nights, taken from the 2027 offers we hold in November 2026.

In February, the cheapest month for most boats here, a well-priced boat costs about €2,500 a week and the middle of the fleet about €2,700.

In June, the dearest month, the middle of the fleet costs about €4,300 a week.

The cheapest tenth of boats here start from about €1,700 a week, and the top tenth from about €4,000.

Fuel, marina fees, the final clean and any skipper are usually extra on bareboat yachts; crewed boats include their crew. Each boat page shows what its operator includes and the live price for your dates.

Boats start from Marina del Sur (22 boats), Puerto Deportivo Radazul (20 boats), Club Náutico Puerto Colón (5 boats), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (3 boats) and Marina Santa Cruz (2 boats). Almost every charter here starts on a Saturday.

Getting there

Tenerife South airport is a short drive from Las Galletas and Puerto Colón. Gran Canaria airport is about 25 minutes from Las Palmas.
