Yacht charter in Montenegro

Montenegro's Bay of Kotor winds inland between steep mountains, with the walled town of Kotor at its far end. It is short on islands but long on scenery, and it combines easily with Croatia's southern coast. The fleet on our desk here centres on Porto Montenegro in Tivat, a large modern marina.

The sailing grounds

Boats start from Porto Montenegro, Solila, Portonovi and Meljine. Inside the bay, stops include Perast and its two island churches, Kotor and Herceg Novi. Outside, the coast runs south to Budva. Sailing north to Cavtat and Dubrovnik means clearing out of Montenegro and into Croatia.

May to October. The bay is sheltered, but the bura can drop off the mountains suddenly.

We list about 40 boats in Montenegro from 11 charter companies. The fleet is sailing yachts (50%), catamarans (33%) and motor yachts and motorboats (17%). Half the boats were built in 2018 or later, and the typical boat is about 42 ft long with 4 cabins. The most common models here are the Oceanis 45, Bali Catsmart and Excess 11.

Ways to charter

Boats in Montenegro offer these kinds of charter (a boat can offer more than one):

Bareboat (26 boats): you skipper the boat yourself. The skipper needs a licence the operator accepts, and usually a VHF radio certificate.

Crewed (7 boats): a skipper and crew come with the boat, often with a cook or host.

Day charter (6 boats): a single day on the water, usually with crew.

Skippered (4 boats): a professional skipper sails the boat with you, and you crew as much or as little as you like.

Regatta (1 boat): boats prepared and entered for racing events.

Flotilla (1 boat): you sail your own boat in a group, with a lead boat and crew on hand to help.

What a week costs

These prices are for the boat for seven nights, taken from the 2027 offers we hold in November 2026.

In January, the cheapest month for most boats here, a well-priced boat costs about €1,450 a week and the middle of the fleet about €1,450.

In July, the dearest month, the middle of the fleet costs about €4,100 a week.

The cheapest tenth of boats here start from about €1,750 a week, and the top tenth from about €3,000.

Fuel, marina fees, the final clean and any skipper are usually extra on bareboat yachts; crewed boats include their crew. Each boat page shows what its operator includes and the live price for your dates.

Boats start from Porto Montenegro (20 boats), Marina Solila (4 boats), Lazure Meljine Marina (4 boats), Portonovi Marina (3 boats) and Jamb Marina (2 boats). Almost every charter here starts on a Saturday.

Getting there

Tivat airport is a few minutes from Porto Montenegro. Dubrovnik airport is about an hour away, with a border crossing.
