Tide runs this coast, not the breeze. Thirty-seven feet is the right size for it — enough boat for the chop across the Pertuis d'Antioche, small enough to work the channels between the oyster beds. Days get planned around the lock gates and the water over the banks, with 6m of range to account for. That is the sailing here, and it is good practice. Right for sailors who want tidal work and short hops between Ré and Oléron; less right for anyone after flat water and an easy lunch anchorage.
