01 · Overview
Yacht charter in Croatia
Croatia is one of the most popular charter countries in the world, and it has the second-largest fleet on our desk, after Greece. The coast is protected by long chains of islands, so the water is usually calm, the distances short, and harbours close together. Every type of charter is offered, from bareboat sailing yachts to gulets and crewed motor yachts.
02 · The sailing grounds
The sailing grounds
The coast falls into a few sailing areas. Istria and Kvarner in the north are closest to Central Europe. Northern Dalmatia, around Zadar and Šibenik, has the Kornati national park. Central Dalmatia, around Split and Trogir, is the busiest, with Brač, Hvar and Vis. The south, around Dubrovnik, has the Elaphiti islands, Mljet and Korčula.
Sailing areas on our desk:
Split: about 600 boats
Trogir: about 180 boats
Šibenik: about 160 boats
Kvarner: about 140 boats
Pula: about 120 boats
Dubrovnik: about 110 boats
Zadar: about 100 boats
03 · Season and weather
Season and weather
Late April to October. In summer the maestral blows from the north-west most afternoons. The bura and the jugo are the two winds to watch, mostly outside July and August.

Half the boats were built in 2020 or later, and the typical boat is about 45 ft long with 4 cabins. The largest sleep guests in up to 20 cabins. The most common models here are the Bavaria Cruiser 46, Lagoon 42 and Lagoon 46.
05 · Ways to charter
Ways to charter
Boats in Croatia offer these kinds of charter (a boat can offer more than one):
Bareboat (1691 boats): you skipper the boat yourself. The skipper needs a licence the operator accepts, and usually a VHF radio certificate.
Crewed (323 boats): a skipper and crew come with the boat, often with a cook or host.
Flotilla (75 boats): you sail your own boat in a group, with a lead boat and crew on hand to help.
Skippered (69 boats): a professional skipper sails the boat with you, and you crew as much or as little as you like.
Day charter (47 boats): a single day on the water, usually with crew.
All-inclusive (13 boats): crew, meals and drinks are in one price.
Cabin charter (6 boats): you book one cabin on a shared, crewed boat rather than the whole yacht.
Regatta (1 boat): boats prepared and entered for racing events.
