What licence is needed to charter a yacht?

Sailboats: licence and sailing experience for bareboat, or add a skipper. Catamarans: licence for bareboat. The easiest boat to live on. Motorboats: licence. Canal cruisers in France and Germany often need none: check the boat page. Houseboats: usually no licence; a short handover on site. Gulets: always crewed, no skill needed.

Most families pick the catamaran: two hulls, twice the deck space and barely any heel, and the typical boat sleeps 10 in 5 cabins. It costs more: a median of €4,409 a week against €1,947 for a sailboat.

What is a gulet?

A wide wooden ketch, 72–121 ft, run by its crew like a small hotel with all meals aboard. The typical gulet sleeps 12 in 6 cabins. Most sail from Bodrum Marina, Fethiye port, Marmaris Yat Limani. A whole gulet has a median of €13,420 a week; from €2,900 is a single cabin.

Are prices per boat or per person?

Per boat, per week, for every type on this page. The exception is cabin charter, which is priced per cabin. Each price is the live price for the week you pick, so it moves with the season.
